Police arrest suspects for business robberies

Last night Intelligence driven operation was conducted by Umlazi detectives, Umlazi Tactical Response Team and other units tracing wanted suspects for business robberies. It is alleged that these suspects were targeting U Save Shoprite and other business places at Umlazi for several times and get away.

The members followed up information about alleged suspects who were wanted for business robberies at Umlazi area. The members pounced on them and they arrested four suspects.

Two of them were found in possession of unlicensed firearm, both pistols, and ammunition.

The recovered firearms will be sent for ballistic tests to establish if they were used in any other crimes in the province. The arrested suspects between 30 and 41 years were linked to business robberies that were reported at U Save Shoprite, Umlazi area. They are expected to appear in the Umlazi Magistrate’s Court soon facing four counts of business robbery and a further possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bhekinkosi Langa praised the police officers for their hard work that led to the arrest of theses suspects. ‘Our detectives will work around the clock to try and see if they are not wanted for other robberies in the province.

I encourage our community members to continue supporting us in the fight against crime by providing valuable information to the police that will lead to the arrest and recovery of stolen goods,’ he said.
