Basic Educations hands over Mangena Primary School as part of the ASIDI Programme, 13 Oct

The Department of Basic Educations’ Accelerated Schools Infrastructure Development Initiative (ASIDI) programme will tomorrow, Thursday 13 October 2016 hand-over another state-of-the-art school Mangena Primary School in Kwambhayi, outside Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape.

The department has continued to handover state-of-the-art schools on a weekly basis since 2013 and has to date handed over in excess of 170 schools across the country the bulk of which are in the Eastern Cape. The ASIDI includes a basic services component over and above the school building programme and to this end, an additional 615 schools have been provided with water, 418 with decent sanitation and 307 with electricity.

The objective of ASIDI is to eradicate the Basic Safety Norms backlog in schools without water, sanitation and electricity and to replace those schools constructed from inappropriate material (mud, plankie, asbestos) to contribute towards levels of optimum learning and teaching.
