Launch of Arbor week in Matatiele

The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in partnership with Total South Africa will launch this year’s National Arbor Week on 1 September at Matatiele Local Municipality in the Eastern Cape.

The National Arbor Week is celebrated annually from 1 -7 September and is a joint national and provincial initiative that recognises and encourages awareness on the need to protect indigenous trees and forests.

Arbor Week will be celebrated under the theme; “Forests and Water”.

Activities of the launch day will include project visits and greening initiatives in the community. The day will also include the Arbor City Awards, a competition that was introduced to promote the greening of cities and towns in South Africa. These awards are given to cities/towns that go an extra mile to green their areas of jurisdiction,

Time:   11:00 – Main event at North End Stadium, Matatiele
