Parliament on AARTO bill public hearings

Committee satisfied with input received during AARTO bill public hearings

The Portfolio Committee on Transport has voiced satisfaction with the quality of inputs it has received from the public and stakeholders during public hearings on the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (AARTO) Bill.

A number of organisations and individuals made inputs, including SA Taxi, the South African Local Government Association (Salga), the Justice Project SA and Tasima.

The Chairperson of the Committee, Ms Dikeledi Magadzi, said it was encouraging to see South African taking ownership of a process to formulate a piece of legislation that will impact on them.

“The Committee is going to deliberate on the submissions on Tuesday [13 September] and those elements that enhance the AARTO legislation will be effected into the Bill. This administration values the citizens and will always involve them in decision-making,” Ms Magadzi said.

She said the same approach will be followed with regards to the National Land Transport Amendment Bill. The Committee will deliberate on the submissions made over the past two days.
