KwaZulu-Natal in search of quality healthcare - 40th Health Congress

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Willies Mchunu has expressed his appreciation to the President of the International Hospital Federation, Dr Eric Kreyberg Normann for choosing Durban as the host of the 40th World Hospital Congress.

The congress will be officially opened by the premier tomorrow 1st November 2016 and is attended by more than 600 delegates including speakers representing more than 40 countries from across the globe. The National Health Insurance which KZN is piloting will be the subject of the congress.

Mchunu quipped: “Various forms of preventable diseases continue to undermine the health and quality of life of many people. We want to learn best healthcare management practices from delegates representing countries such as Brazil, Russia, Ghana, Finland, France, New Zealand, Netherlands, Botswana, Australia, Italy, USA, UK, Iran and many more others.”

“I want to pay tribute to the scientific committee which is responsible for deciding the topics covered by this congress. The topics for discussion and line-up of speakers make this congress a festival of ideas.

“We anticipate ground-breaking decisions and recommendations that will assist our government to provide quality healthcare to our people. We wish this venue, which is named after the first African Recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, Inkosi Albert Luthuli, to be a world landmark for decisive actions required to address challenges facing the world.”

“Importantly, we want the City of Durban to be remembered positively such as its role in the World Conference Against Racism, Non Aligned Movement Summit, the formation of the African Union, BRICS Summit, CORP 17 and many other international conferences such as the recently held 21st International Aids Conference.”
