Deputy Minister Rejoice Mabudafhasi addresses 37th KoMjekejeke King Silamba annual commemoration, 4 Mar

The Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture, Ms Rejoice Mabudafhasi will deliver the keynote address at the annual commemoration of the late Ndebele King Silamba, on Saturday, 4 March 2017, at Walmansthal (KoMjekejeke Heritage Site)‚ north east of Pretoria.

King Silamba was a ruler of the Ndebele nation when they were forcefully moved to KoMjekejeke by the Boers in the late 1860s.The King Silamba Annual Commemoration event was established since 1980 and the event has grown into what it is today, a renowned annual event in the Ndebele Kingdom Calendar. 

For the first time this year, Department of Arts and Culture will be financially supporting 37th KoMjekejeke King Silamba Annual Commemoration through its department’s strategic programme of Mzansi Golden Economy (MGE). The Mzansi Golden Economy programme among others seeks to reinforce the Arts, Culture and Heritage Sector as an economic growth sector, creates decent work for local artists, and provides skills development for excellence and high performance in the arts culture and heritage sector.

The event will consist of a variety of activities including formal traditional council protocol and cultural programme featuring different cultural groups.
