PES in Gauteng commemorates International Mandela Day in bravura

The Department of Labour’s Public Employment Services (PES) in Gauteng will be commemorating the International Mandela Day in style from 18 to 19 July 2014.

In collaboration with a host of generous prospective employers from different industries in the province, a number of unemployed women, youth and people with disabilities who are registered on the department’s Employment Services of South Africa (ESSA) database will be targeted for employment.

This will become a reality when prospective employers from different industries will be giving their pledges as to how many people they will absorb in their employ.
The International Mandela Day, which is celebrated worldwide on the great man’s birthday on July 18, where all mortal beings are encouraged to contribute 67 minutes of their lives for good cause, will be celebrated for two days, the first time after his departure from this world.

The Department of Labour through, PES wants to contribute immensely by encouraging prospective employers to use the department’s database.

The Chief Director Provincial Operations, Kenny Fick, says that this campaign will have a huge impact on the targeted groups and that this is the only way the scourge of poverty can be confronted.

“We have worked tirelessly with our stakeholders to make this a reality and now it is harvest time. We also encourage those who did not heed the call to come and join this accelerative winning team,” He said.

The department will also recognise 67 employers who have proactively heeded the call to employ more women, youth and those with disabilities. The department expect a further 300 more employer representatives to avail themselves and pledge at the event that will be held on July 18 at the Cedar Park Hotel and Conference Centre, Woodmead in Sandton from 08:00 till 14:00.

The media is invited to come and witness this giant step to human dignity.
