Response by the provincial government against the allegations levelled against MEC Block and Premier Jenkins

The Office of the Premier would like to reiterate its principle stance that there is no proof of any wrongdoing against the MEC for Finance Economic Development and Tourism Mr D John Block.

During the time of the said business transaction, he was not an official of government and did not influence the transaction. According to our investigation proper procedures were followed and there was no impropriety.

If at all the Congress of the People (COPE) feels they have new evidence they should forward this evidence to the relevant investigative bodies that exists because it is within their right to investigate. We find it very strange that every time that COPE claims to have evidence of corruption they report it to the newspapers and not the relevant investigative bodies.

We take a dim view of the childish and boring statements that are being recycled by COPE and the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the local media to tarnish the image of the MEC and undermine the integrity of the premier. The members of COPE in the provincial legislature are a bunch of disgruntled individuals who sit idly and fabricate lazy and malicious statements to gain cheap publicity.

They must be ashamed of themselves because they have failed to serve the very people who elected them into power to represent their interest and aspirations. Mr Dikgetsi believes that by discrediting the leadership of government he will erase our integrity and therefore weaken our resolve to accelerate service delivery to all our people. Such malicious attempts will never succeed as we remain focus and determined to improve the quality of life of our people.

Mr Pakes Dikgetsi who is the source of the information is tainted and is facing corruption charges in a court of law.

Furthermore, we will ensure that government investigates the shady dealings regarding the Soul City housing development project. This shoddy housing development project occurred during the time when he was the MEC for housing.

In dealing with corruption our approach has never been and will never be selective. We have always exposed corruption wherever it has manifest itself and people like Mr Dikgetsi should know better.
