Ladies and gentlemen:

It is a great honour and privilege for me to deliver these brief remarks.

As we gather here in this grand celebration, it is important that we don’t forget the critical responsibility we bear towards our planet, and the profound impact that inclusivity can have in addressing the environmental challenges of our time.

Earth observations, often conducted through satellites and other technological instruments, provide us with invaluable data and insights into the state of our planet. They enable us to monitor changes in our climate, track deforestation, manage water resources, and understand the dynamics of our ecosystems.

These observations are not just about technology; they are also about humanity's collective commitment to preserving our shared home and the future of the unborn. Earth observations serve as our eyes on the ground, in the sky, and beyond.

They allow us to see the bigger picture and make informed decisions to safeguard our environment. Equality critical is the need to recognise that the fight to protect our planet is not one that can be undertaken by a select few.

It is a battle that requires inclusivity, where every individual and every nation must play a part. Environmental challenges know no borders, and their consequences affect us all, irrespective of our background or nationality.

In this respect, inclusivity means ensuring that every voice is heard. Every perspective is considered, and every community is engaged in the collective effort to save our planet.

To achieve true inclusivity in our efforts, we must work together, across borders and boundaries. We must engage with communities that are often marginalised, respecting their unique insights and knowledge.

By involving people from various walks of life, will not only enrich our understanding of environmental issues, but also empower individuals to take action, regardless of their circumstances. We must therefore ensure that no one is left behind in our mission to protect the environment.

By working together, nations can pool their resources, knowledge, and expertise to address the challenges that come with climate change, pollution, deforestation, and other environmental challenges.

These are transnational concerns that can’t be addressed by a single government or entity and therefore require collective action.

As we gather here tonight, it is my hope that you will not only enjoy the exquisite cuisine, and the company of those around you, but that you will also make the most of this incredible opportunity to explore and embrace the South African experience.

In doing so, you will discover the warmth and hospitality of our people, the beauty of our landscapes, and the rich tapestry of our history and culture.

I encourage each and every one of you to seize this moment, to embark on your own personal voyage of exploration and discovery. In the City of Cape Town and the broader South African landscape.

In closing, I urge all of you to reflect deeply on the role you can play in preserving our planet. Each one of us has the power to make a difference, whether through small daily choices or larger collective efforts.

Thank you, and may this evening inspire us to embark on a collective journey towards a sustainable and inclusive future for our planet.
