Dr W G James (DA) to ask Minister of Basic Education:

1) Whether her department has taken any steps with regard to the amount of R44 billion that is unaccounted for between the Education Departments of Eastern Cape, Limpopo and North West, as indicated by the Auditor General in October 2010 to Parliament; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details;
2) Whether any officials are being held responsible for this situation; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?

Reply:

1) The Department of Basic Education does not have the record of information referred to in the question.
2) There are no officials held responsible in this regard since the department does not have a record of information referred to in the above question.

The draft Education Sector Report dated September 2010, which the Department of Basic Education received from the Auditor-General, does not cite such unaccounted amount (R44 billion)
