Minister Angie Motshekga hosted her quarterly meeting with District Directors from 9 to 10 July 2015 at the Department of Basic Education in Pretoria. The primary focus of these quarterly meetings is the improvement of learner outcomes.
This is the second meeting that Minister Motshekga will have with District Directors, Chief Directors and DDGs responsible for districts this year.
The previous meeting took place from 26 to 27 February 2015.
Discussions during this mid-year meeting between the Minister and Districts Directors were centred around the level of preparedness to administer the 2015 Annual National Assessments (ANA) and reporting Quarter 1 and Quarter 2 trends on learner performance with regards to Grade 9 and Grade 12 Mathematics; curriculum coverage; Mathematics, Science and Technology (MST) support for Grade 9; district monitoring and support to schools; learner and teacher attendance; and updates on creating enabling environments for effective district operations.
These updates on creating enabling environments include the implementation of the Policy on the Organisation, Roles and Responsibilities of Education Districts; the filling of critical vacancies; and the provision of adequate equipment and infrastructure.
