North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa on Wednesday vowed that law enforcement officers will be out in full force on all roads and that multipurpose roadblocks to sustain the momentum of the onslaught against crime and lawlessness will be intensified across the province. Roadblocks which have commenced since the beginning of this month are part of the provincial support for the National Rolling Enforcement Plan and South African Police Service’ When Duty Calls operations.
Former Police Officer Samson Matlakala’s record of 27 years of driving without a road traffic violation was broken by North West Public Safety Principal Provincial inspector, Monicca Madiba. Matlakala (47) praised the zero tolerance blitz after he was issued with a ticket at a road block on the N4 Bakwena Platinum Highway ticket for stopping on a free way last Friday.
MEC Yawa commended the Bapong Traffic Control Centre headed by PPI Madiba for stopping over 2666 vehicles over the past weekend. During the blitz, over 110 motorists were issued with tickets for various road traffic moving violations that included inconsiderate driving, overtaking on barrier line, using cellphone whilst driving, stopping on freeway and other moving offences.
Ninety-two drivers were found driving without licenses, 59 of the drivers were without drivers licenses while 33 had licenses but couldn’t produce them.
Forty-four motorists were issued with tickets for driving unlicensed vehicles while 23 were found driving public transport vehicles without being in possession of public driving permits and or driving wrong category of vehicles.
