Youth Month Proud to Serve campaign gets underway

The National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) Proud to Serve campaign got underway today on 6 June 2011 in a number of communities around the country. About 10 000 young people from all provinces are engaged in community service under the Proud to Serve Door-to-Door Community Education campaign as part of the NYDA's youth month programmes aimed at reaching out to communities.

During the campaign young people are visiting communities to educate them about various products and services of the NYDA and other government programmes. They will also provide essential services to their communities including the provision of access to identity documents and social services and also assist in the restoration of community areas, including cleaning of cemeteries and painting schools.

This campaign is part of the NYDA’s National Youth Service programme where we, in partnership with government departments, provide youth with skills while they provide service for the benefit of communities in need. The campaign got underway in Northern Cape today, and will be underway in the Western Cape, North West, Free State and Limpopo tomorrow 7 June 2011. The campaign which runs until 12 June 2011 will also be inculcating the spirit of volunteerism and social cohesion among youth.

The Proud to Serve schedule will be available from 7 June 2011 on http://www.nyda.gov.za/youthmonth.
