Young woman dies after bakkie overturns near Tlakgameng

Speed and drunken driving are suspected to have caused a car accident in which a 20 year old young woman died after a bakkie overturned between Tlakgameng and Ganyesa on Saturday afternoon.

The driver of the Isuzu bakkie is alleged to have lost control of the vehicle on the gravel road at around noon. Though the bakkie rolled several times, the twenty-six year old driver and three other passengers who were in the vehicle sustained minor injuries. The driver was arrested at the scene of the accident for failing to produce a license and for blood to be extracted for alcohol testing.

North West MEC, Howard Yawa confirmed that police are investigating a case of culpable homicide, driving without a valid license and suspected drunken driving.

MEC Yawa wishes to convey his condolences to the family of the young woman who was killed in the accident. He appealed to motorists to drive with caution on gravel roads.
