Yawa to beat the drum for a war against crime and corruption

Findings of investigations into escapes from police custody, loss of firearms by police and syndicates issuing fraudulent driver licenses, marriage certificates, birth certificates and car registration certificates are to be highlighted by North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa in the North West Provincial Legislature on Wednesday afternoon.

MEC Yawa's call to action theme for his 2009/10 departmental policy statement and budget speech titled, "beating the drum and blowing the horn for a war against crime" addresses among others the following key issues:

  • service delivery challenges observed during unannounced oversight visits to police stations
  • crime prevention through environmental design strategy pilot project
  • an integrated strategy to prevent and combat sexual offences
  • challenges of road safety road safety strategy
  • corruption among public servants
  • friendship between police and criminals
  • statistics on road crashes, fatalities
  • role of the business sector in the war against crime
  • stock theft and farm killings
  • crime situation in the north west province
  • conviction rate and backlog in court cases
