World Cup taxi industry has role to play

Acknowledging the full participation of the taxi industry in the movement of fans and visitors during the World Cup, MEC Bheki Nkosi has emphasised that opportunities will be created for all public transport service providers to take part. He also encouraged all in the industry to contribute in the provision of a safe and reliable transport for all during the tournament.

The MEC stressed the national Minister's call to the taxi industry to rally behind the country's efforts to deliver the best ever World Cup held on African soil. This would only be achieved by all involved in the movement of fans to working together in the interest of the country.

He dismissed the impression that seeks to suggest that the taxi industry is excluded in the comprehensive transport plans for the World Cup, in Gauteng particularly and said that is unfounded and misleading. MEC emphasised that the industry will contribute substantially in facilitating the swift movement of fans and visitors between the host cities and the province generally.
