World AIDS Day

The community of Inanda, in the eThekwini Metro, came out in numbers to support of the commemoration of World AIDS Day, which took place, at the JL Dube stadium. The commemoration, which was attended by the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Nomusa Dube-Ncube, together with the Mayor of eThekwini Cllr James Nxumalo.

In the event MEC Dube-Ncube, called on the community, to continue to work with government in the fight against this disease, this has left a trail of destruction in many families.

Members of the community also got a chance to check their health, at the mobile clinics that had been made available by the Municipality. This according to James Nxumalo, is part of a broader programme being implemented by the Municipality, through which mobile clinics visit various communities within the Municipality, with the aim of providing basic health care services like, eye screening, HIV and AIDS testing and High Blood pressure.

During the commemoration, members of the community together with the MEC and the Mayor lit a candle to commemorate and remember the lives that have been lost because of this disease.

According to Dube-Ncube, the grounds that have been gained by the Provincial Government in the fight against this disease, have been hailed the world over, and elimination of mother to child transmission, has been a big boost in the fight against this disease.
