Conclude a robust dialogue on National Gender Machinery (NMG) with stakeholders

South Africa is faced with many challenges key among others is Gender Equality and Gender-Based Violence and Femicide as a pandemic. The 2023 National Gender Machinery was cemented on the need to balance mainstreaming of gender equality processes and ensuring that society broadly takes responsibility on redressing women's oppression and patriarchal domination.

Key topical issues discussed during the National Gender Machinery with the stakeholders represented by government, civil society and BRICS Woman Business Alliance was the review of the South African National Policy Framework for woman empowerment, socio economic empowerment and human rights, as well as governance issues in order to accelerate gender equality.

In South Africa (SA) gender equality is closely intertwined with the complex political history of resistance. The inherited legacy of the past, particularly for black women, which includes oppression and discrimination based on gender race, class, religion, ethnicity and geographic location.

Dr Yacooob Abba Omar, of Indlulamithi South Africa, further outline the three scenarios for SA for 2035 and their implications for women and the women’s movement, the presentation also focused on how to ensure women empowerment remains a priority During the deliberations at the NGM the Statistics South Africa outlined South Africa’s report on the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals particularly goal number 5, that speaks to achieving gender equality and empower all women and girls.

National Gender Machinery (NGM), as one mechanism and strategies aimed to address women's inequalities in all spheres of life, both private and public, calls for generation of data on the status of women, in order to address the social economic developmental, needs that are promoting women's integration into the future we want.

Recommendations from the two days NMG was centered around, strengthening of alignment, responsiveness, mainstreaming relevance and the disaggregation of data.
