Women Councillors dialogue a big success

On 29 October, over 600 female councillors, gathered at the Durban-ICC for the 3rd Annual Women Councillors Dialogue. This dialogue, gwhich is spearheaded by the KwaZulu-Natal Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) MEC, Nomusa Dube-Ncube, aims to empower female councillors on how they can become better leaders within their communities.

According to Dube the challenges that are faced by women councillors are immense and this programme assists them to find ways in which they can overcome them. In her speech, MEC Dube, told councillors that as women they have the potential to be outstanding leaders. “Education is very critical if you as councillors aspire to be effective and knowledgeable leaders” said Dube.

Councillors were also graced by the guest speakers, who have been trail blazers in their various areas of work, who provide wisdom and knowledge to councillors.

During the event, which has been a huge success, councillors interacted with the MEC, the former First Lady of the Province Dr May Mkhize, and the Mayor of uThungulu District Municipality who is also the first lady in the province, Cllr Thembeka Mchunu.
