What is becoming of this world, asked Mchunu

“What is becoming of this world?  These are the words by MEC for Transport, Community and Liaison Mr. Willies Mchunu after receiving the report of thieves that stole from the bereaved family at kwaDabeka near Pinetown last Friday morning, 22 July 2011.

Preliminary reports revealed that the Msomi family was in mourning after the passing of the husband.  It is alleged that on Thursday 21 July 2011 after the family had finished baking, they went to bed at about 10:30pm, and  later that night the daughter in law woke Mrs. Msomi realizing that some of her stuff had gone missing.  When the whole family woke up they all realised that most of the things they had were stolen.  These include cash worth R4000, cellphones, food which was going to be cooked for the mourners and clothes the grieving wife was going to wear for the funeral.

“I am deeply disappointed and disgusted at how people are behaving.  They are behaving like animals that do not use their brains.  Africans are known for their respect, humanity and spirit of Ubuntu. What is becoming of this world if we have people who steal from the bereaved? My deepest condolences to the Msomi family for their loss and also the unfortunate incident that occurred in their time of mourning.  The police will leave no stone unturned to make sure that the perpetrators are brought to book and dealt with accordingly,” said Mchunu.
