Next round of Western Cape Government Internet Competition opens
A local designer, who runs an online fashion and jewellery store, has become the latest winner of the Western Cape Government’s Internet Competition .
The competition, which was devised by the Department of Economic Development and Tourism, seeks to highlight the impact of the public WiFi zones put in place by the Western Cape Government.
The next round of the competition opens this week.
In her winning entry, Angelinah Mokoena, from North Pine, described how technology has changed the marketplace.
“I recently launched my online store where I am selling jewellery, other fashion accessories and clothing for both men and women. Technology has enabled me to reach a wider spectrum of clients across South Africa and minimised the need to do the physical distribution or marketing of my pieces,” explained Mokoena.
She added that a Facebook page provides a business with excellent insights into its selected target market, including their location.
Mokoena, whose online store includes her own pieces and goods from suppliers, said she would use her cash prize to buy more stock.
Alan Winde, Minister of Economic Opportunities, called on the province’s most innovative residents to submit their entries for the latest round of the competition which closes on 30 October 2015.
Entrants stand the chance to win between R2 000 and R10 000 for winning concepts.
