Water and Sanitation on North West water levels decline

North West water levels has declined this week due to scorching hot temperatures

The current high temperature in most parts of the province has caused a notable decline in the provincial water storage, a weekly report on state of reservoirs in the country issued by the Department of Water and Sanitation has shown.

The volume of water stored in the reservoirs of most provinces has has taken a plunge with 75.6% this week, compared to last week’s overall storage capacity of 85.5%.

According to the Departmental Spokesperson, Ms Wisane Mavasa, this week’s weekly report on the state of the dams indicates that the provincial dam levels have dropped and this is due to the less rainfall and the hot conditions experienced. Despite the levels being at satisfactory margins, the residents of North West are kindly reminded to use water responsibly and sparingly. As the Department of Water and Sanitation has dedicated this month of March as Water Month, let us serve as ambassadors for water conservation and protect our water infrastructures in our communities”, said Mavasa.

The Vaalkop dam has also noted a fall off from 87,1% to 83,5%, Hartbeespoort dam is currently sitting at 95,0% this week from last week’s 96,2%. Klipvoor dam also noted a decline from 94,4% down to 88,3%.

Buffelspoort dam slightly increased this week and is currently at 100,1% from 100,3%. Lindleyspoort dam on the Elands River has decreased from 62,2% to 60,3%. The Olifantsnek dam has suffered this week, with dam levels varying from 84,2% last week to 81,7% this week.

Molatedi dam has also declined from 44,3% to 41,6%, indicating a severe drop. The Ngotwane dam levels have dropped from 40,1% to 39,4% this week while Madikwe dam levels have plunged from 40,3% to 39,6 %.

Taung dam levels have reduced from 91.9% to 91.4%, while the Koster dam have increased from 88,9% to 89,9%.

Roodekopjes dam dropped from 85,9% to 85,5% while Pella dam also decreased from 49,7% to 49.0%.

Marico-Bosveld, Disaneng and Setumo dams did not experience any changes this week, and are currently sitting at 59,4%,91,4% and 102,8% respectively.
