United Kingdom national prohibited from entering South Africa

Another joint effort between the South African Police Service's Crime Intelligence Division and the Department of Home Affairs resulted in a British subject being refused entry into South Africa via OR Tambo Airport yesterday, Friday 11 June 2010.

The 42 year old male landed in Johannesburg on a flight from Heathrow Airport and immigration officials, reacting to information received from the Crime Intelligence Division, intercepted and detained him.

This individual has a history of inciting racially motivated violence at sporting events. It was thus decided that he would pose a threat to public order and that he should be prohibited from entering South Africa.

The man will be repatriated to the United Kingdom tonight. He is the 12th person to be refused entry into South Africa in the lead-up to the kick-off of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Tracing teams in the provinces will be tasked with hunting down these suspects throughout the country to ensure that alleged criminals already linked to serious crimes are brought to justice.

Clean-up operations are also going to be conducted in areas with the highest incidents of contact crimes and chop-shops as well as illegal drug laboratories will receive high priority attention.

Increasing borderline and cross-border operations as well as projects designed to eradicate corruption and fraud are included in the operational plan.
