Umgungundlovu united against the spread of HIV and AIDS and Tuberculosis

All faith organisations, traditional healers, the political leadership of the district and NGOs descended on uMngeni Sports Complex to emphasise the need for health care testing and to ensure a joint effort to fight the spread of HIV and AIDS and TB in the district.

As a Political Champion of the district, MEC for Finance, Ina Cronje´ played host during the Commemoration of World AIDS at Howick today.

Delivering a message on behalf of all stakeholders, Cronje´ said there must be no one who gets infected by HIV and AIDS when the government has organised so much support and spread so much information regarding this epidemic.

“We want zero infection from now on. This is the responsibility of every individual, young and old. We want zero discrimination. There was a time when those infected could not disclose their status for fear of discrimination and victimisation. We want zero AIDS-related deaths. This can only happen when we have no people getting sick because of HIV and AIDS. We want you to love yourself enough to get yourselves tested. This will allow you to live a clean life knowing your status,” said Cronje´.

She said uMgungundlovu District had the highest infection rate compared to others, but to date, there are indications that our hard work of spreading information and encouraging cure is bearing fruits as the district is beginning to see the light.

The resounding message was that people must be their own inspectors and that men must be circumcised.
