Two former “fugitives” from justice are to appear tomorrow (November 22) in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in a case involving the alleged defrauding of R1,2- million of the Department of Labour’s (DoL) Compensation Fund (CF).
Kenneth Martin Mahuluhulu (32) from Thohoyandou and co-accused Khathutshelo Nethengwe (35) from Olifantsfontein face fraud charges. The duo is out on a bail of R5000 each.
Mahuluhulu, an information technology (IT) fundi was arrested last August at his place of work in Unisa in Pretoria, and his co-accused Nethengwe (35), a former employee of the Department of Labour’s CF subsequently handed himself to justice.
The accused have been on the run for two years. They are alleged to have committed their fraudulent activities between 2006 and 2009. Mahuluhulu and Nethengwe are alleged to have collaborated in siphoning the department by submitting and processing fraudulent claims.
The Compensation Fund is a public entity of the Department of Labour. The fund provides cushion to workers injured or for diseases sustained at work.
