Two die in R101 accident

Tshwane, 3 February 2015 – Two (2) people died on Tuesday morning when a minibus transporting learners overturned. Eighteen (18) others sustained injuries.

The accident happened before 07h00 when a learner transport minibus which was travelling from Hammanskraal and taking learners to three schools in the city centre overturned next to a bridge on the R101 road. While investigations will reveal the exact cause of the accident preliminary observations suggest that the minibus tried to overtake the car, or cars, in front of it.

Upon realising that there is fast oncoming traffic the driver veered off the road to the extreme right. The vehicle hit two (2) poles next to a bridge and overturned.

Two (2) people, the driver and one learner, died on the spot. Thirteen (13) sustained critical injuries, while five (5) sustained serious injuries. The injured were transport to various hospitals in the City. One (1) was airlifted to the hospital.

The exact cause of the accident will be investigated.
