A trailer disconnected from a truck tanker and trailer combination vehicle, overturned on the N4 Bakwena Platinum Highway near Groot Maricho on Friday afternoon in the North West Province. Hundreds of irritated motorists were inconvenienced by the traffic congestion that delayed traffic for several kilometers as the lane from Swartruggens to Zeerust was partially closed for over seven hours.
It is alleged that bolts on the coupling between the tanker and the trailer broke at around 12h30 pm hence the trailer could not be controlled and overturned on the Groot Maricho Bridge.
No one was injured in the accident and no damages were reported on the truck and the trailer which was transporting ash from Pretoria to a factory in Botswana.
Traffic officers controlled traffic at the scene while heavy duty breakdown services struggled to bring the trailer to its wheels. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
