Thirty-one ambulances handed over to department by Fleet Africa

The department moved a step closer to bringing relief to needy communities around the province by receiving 31 ambulances from Fleet Africa on 9 June 2010 at the emergency medical services base in East London.

Dr Beja, who is acting General Manager of Clinical Support Services said the purpose of the handover by Fleet Africa was mainly to bring relief and especially to the MEC who often has sleepless nights during the festive season and especially with the coming 2010 World Cup tournament.

The MEC, Honourable Phumulo Masualle, thanked Fleet Africa and said they are providing a platform to consolidate the relationship of trust between themselves and the department with the purpose of meeting the aspirations of the people.

"Every relationship has to be serviced, on the part of the department we have to play our part to meet our own obligations," the MEC said.

MEC Masualle added that such gatherings provide him with the rare opportunity of meeting the people who are in the forefront. He said this has come handy to the emergency medical services personnel; our primary interest is to save the people of the Eastern Cape.

Honourable Masualle also urged the emergency medical services personnel to look after the vehicles who due to the rural nature of the province have been specially made for the terrains.

"We want to have vehicles on the road that are fit to be on the road for us to be able to meet the aspirations of our people, who must be happy to be served by a government they can call their own," Masualle said.

The MEC also took time to wish our national football team, Bafana-Bafana all the best and assured everybody that on the part of the department, "we are ready for anything".
