Suspects on Lanasia illegal land sales to appear in court!

The Department of Local Government and Housing warns all those who purchased government land illegally to stop any building taking place.

They stand to lose more money as there is a possibility that the department will request for both an eviction order for houses which are occupied.

The department may also as for a demolition order for any building found on government land in Lanasia extension 13. People should heed this call in order to save themselves more trouble.

About illegally built 800 (not conclusive) properties may have to be demolished in Lanasia only. The audit of the land continues and the number of properties and the land.

The investigations of the Lanasia South Land Grabs continue, as attention now turns towards the alleged government officials who may be involved. More leads are surfacing pointing to involvement of provincial government and council officials. More people including those who may have been swindled off their monies are coming forward with information that would lead to more arrests of those involved.

The anti fraud and corruption unit of the department and the Hawks are working very hard to follow up on the information, which people are disclosing. More suspects are being sought, after people have come forward with relevant information.

"We thank the Hawks for the commitment that they have shown in this case. We are looking into matters that are surfacing from those who are coming forward. We think their information will be important to strengthen the case," said MEC Kgaogelo Lekgoro.

The department advises those who are willing to provide more information to call the Anti Fraud and Corruption unit on 011 355 4229 and speak to Mpendulo, Sonia, Nomsisi, Marry or Monde.

This advice also goes to people who bought stands in Lanasia from 2005.

Meanwhile the two suspects who were arrested will appear at Protea Magistrate court for a bail hearing tomorrow, 10 September 2010.

The state is expected to oppose bail. The department is making a further call for people who have information related to the Lanasia extension 13 and Lanasia South illegal land sales to call Colonel Maleka on 079 495 4495.
