The Minister of Finance, Mr Pravin Gordhan would like to express his condolences to the Mgimwa family, the Government and the people of Tanzania on the passing away of Dr William Augustao Mgimwa, Tanzania’s Minister of Finance. Dr Mgimwa died in South Africa yesterday (Wednesday, 1 January 2014), where he was undergoing treatment.
Dr Mgimwa keenly appreciated the importance for African countries to strengthen their economies and finance through cooperation to ensure economic stability and to attract investment.
South Africa and Tanzania share a common economic destiny, both being members of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) which, among other things, aims to harmonise finance and investment rules, including tax policies (more specifically those relating to investment incentives).
