South African Police Service (SAPS) constable convicted for rape and discharged from service

A Free State South African Police Service (SAPS) Constable P M Radebe currently under investigation by the Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD) for raping his sister was discharged (dismissed) from service in a SAPS departmental hearing held on Friday, 16 July 2010.

The 28 year old Constable based at Maokeng Detective Unit in the Free State is alleged to have raped his 17 year old biological sister at their grandmother’s home on 19 March 2010. The matter was reported to the police by the victim’s mother. The ICD is also investigating allegations that the suspect had raped his sister on several occasions in 2009.

The ICD commends SAPS management for dealing with this matter in a diligent and expedient manner.
