Services continue at Tshedimosetso Thusong Service Centre at Boikhutso in the North West despite challenges

The North West Provincial Government notes an article published in the Sowetan today which focused on the Tshedimosetso Thusong Service Centre at Boikhutso outside Venterdorp.

The provincial government wishes to place on record that we do acknowledge challenges at the centre, however services to villages around the centre have not been compromised. At no point in responding to questions posed by the Sowetan did we suggest that there are no problems at Tshedimosetso and government is not pleased with the state of affairs.

However, the centre which is currently not operational daily is complemented by visits of mobile services to villages within the same ward on a weekly basis. Through the mobile facilities, government continues to ensure that services are brought closer to the people.

We wish to confirm that it is correct that there are challenges in the proper maintenance of the centre but that this had been the point of intensive discussions between the different spheres of government and the Community Property Association which owns the centre for months and negotiations had regrettably been protracted.

The mobile facilities provide critical government services offered by Home Affairs; Sassa; Labour; Social development; and Rural Development.  Over the past six months alone over 11 000 service transaction have been rendered in the area since January 2013.

Alongside these services, an NGO, Tshireletsego which is based at the centre partners with the mobile services to the villages to provide food parcels and home based care to communities. GCIS in the area is responsible for ensuring that these outreaches are well known to residents in the ward.

The Local Inter-Steering Committee and relevant government departments are scheduled to meet next Tuesday (12 November 2013) to discuss the revival plan of the centre. Government will communicate the outcome of the meeting accordingly.
