Sasolburg station commander discharged from service after being found guilty of rape and assault

Brigadier Nghondzweni, who was a Station Commander at the South African Police Service (SAPS) Sasolburg in the Free State, was yesterday, 7 July 2010 discharged from service.

 

Nghondzweni was charged departmentally for raping and assaulting the victim, who was the volunteer at the station as a result of the Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD) investigation.

 

The alleged offences were committed in the brigadier's office on 5 February 2010 in the evening. The Director of Public Prosecutions has concurred with the ICD's recommendation to charge Brigadier Nghondzweni for rape and assault.

 

He will appear in court on 14 July 2010. The brigadier is still out on bail of R2 000.

 

The ICD commends SAPS management for dealing with the disciplinary matter swiftly.
