Public notice – Operation Clean-Up

The KwaZulu-Natal Liquor Licensing Act, 2010 (Act No. 6 of 2012) was assented by the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal Province, Dr ZL Mkhize in December 2010. The Act provides for the regulation, control and licensing of micro-manufacturing and retail sale of liquor, establishment of KwaZulu-Natal Liquor Authority and its local committees and appointment of inspectors.

The KwaZulu-Natal Liquor Authority (KZNLA) has been established as a juristic person to ensure the implementation of the said legislation. The KZNLA intends to make the introduction of the act as seamless and smooth as possible.

In anticipation of the commencement of this Act on such a date as will be applicable once the National Minister of Trade and Industry repeals the Liquor Act of 1989 (Act No.27 of 1989) and in order to ensure an effective and efficient transition process, the KZNLA is introducing” Operation Clean-Up”.

“Operation Clean-Up” is aimed at inviting only those applicants and applicant’s representatives with pending applications to advise them and provide then with information with regard to outstanding documents that need to be submitted for finalisation of their liquor applications. An audit has been conducted by Liquor Licensing and Administration to identify that will require finalisation in respect of the Liquor Act of 1989 (Act No.27 of 1989).

“Operation Clean-Up” seeks to advise the below affected applicants to submit all outstanding documents and other relevant information to the Liquor Licensing & Administration at the address indicated below. The submission of the outstanding documents will ensure that applications are finalised by the KZN Liquor Board as per the provisions of the Liquor Act, 2010 section 102(4). This section provides that all applications made before commencement of the Liquor Act, 2010 are finalised in terms of the Liquor Act of 1989.

The outstanding documents can be submitted as from 16 July till 20 July 2012, starting from 08h00 till 16h00, at:
