The Portfolio Committee on Public Enterprises would like to express its condolences to the families and workers of Eskom who lost their lives in a tragic accident in KwaZulu-Natal.
Last week, 13 employees at Eskom's Ingula pumped storage construction site near Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal’ were involved in a tragic accident, six construction employees lost their lives and seven required medical treatment.
Said Chairperson of the Committee, Mr Peter Maluleka: “We are saddened by the loss of life. As we grieve we would like to wish a speedy recovery to those who are in hospital.” Mr Maluleka said the Committee supported and welcomed the investigation instituted by the department that will look into the cause of the accident. The Committee will await the outcomes of the investigations.
