President Jacob Zuma will attend the 20th World Economic Forum on Africa, taking place in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, which begins this evening, 5 May 2010 and continues until Friday.
President Zuma arrived in Dar es Salaam on Monday evening to attend a meeting of former liberation movements from Southern Africa.
The World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting is taking place under the theme, ‘Rethinking Africa’s Growth Roadmap’. African leaders and business people are expected to present views about Africa’s growth strategy following the global economic crisis.
President Zuma is accompanied by Minister of Finance Pravin Gordhan, Minister of Science and Technology Naledi Pandor, Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs Buyelwa Sonjica, Minister of Trade and Industry Rob Davies, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Tina Joemat-Pettersson, and Minister of Economic Development Ebrahim Patel. A large number of South African business leaders are also attending the meeting.
President Zuma will address a South African dinner hosted by the WEF this evening under the theme “Building South Africa �" the 2010 World Cup and beyond”. It will include roundtable discussions with South African ministers and business leaders.
During the course of the meeting, President Zuma will also participate in a panel discussion on “The Future of Africa’s Democracies” and address the closing plenary session on “The Redesign of Africa’s Role in a New Global Economy”.
Earlier today he met with the WEF Executive Chairman and Founder Professor Klaus Schwab. He is expected to have a number of other bilateral meetings during his stay in Tanzania.
President Zuma will return to South Africa on Friday, 7 May 2010.
