President Jacob Zuma yesterday, 12 December 2013, informed Parliament that he had authorised the employment of Eleven Thousand Eight Hundred and Ninety Four (11 894) members of the South African National Defence Force for service in cooperation with the South African Police Service to maintain law and order during the funeral service of the former President of the Republic, the Honourable Mr Nelson Mandela.
The employment is for a period of fifteen (15) days commencing on 6 December to 20 December 2013.
