I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to South Africa and to Africa.

When South Africa was announced as the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ host nation, we knew that this was our chance to showcase Africa’s potential to the world.
This is as much a celebration as it is a sporting event, and celebration is something we do very well.
We are not afraid to sing and dance, spreading our joy and including everyone when we are happy. We are proud of this great celebration of football and unity.
More than anything else, the spirit of Africa will define this important event. Football is a universal sport, and something we as Africans have embraced wholeheartedly. We have also made it our own, and added a local flair.
From our cities and townships, to the open horizons of our countryside, we play football with a uniquely African flavour, and are excited to share our passion for the beautiful game with the world.
By coming to our country to experience the 2010 FIFA World Cup™, you are helping to bring our continent to the rest of the globe.
When your time with us is over, and you return to your homes, you will take with you not only souvenirs and pictures, but also your experience of the real Africa.
