President Jacob Zuma has, in terms of section 36(2) of the Civilian Secretariat for Police Service Act, 2011 (Act No. 2 of 2011), determined 1 April 2014 as the date on which section 4(2) and 4(3) as well as section 14 of the Civilian Secretariat for Police Services Act, 2011 (Act No.2 of 2011) shall come to operation.
The Civilian Secretariat of Police Service Act, 2011 (Act, No.2 of 2011) establishes the Civilian Secretariat of Police as required by section 208 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996, and provides it with the necessary powers and functions to exercise civilian oversight over the South African Police.
