Premier Supra Mahumapelo hosts Vice-Governor Li Ya of Henan Province, China

The capital city of Bokone Bophirima Province, Mahikeng, will from Wednesday 28 to Friday 30 October be a hive of activities as Premier SOR Mahumapelo will be hosting a delegation from Henan Province in China, for what is dubbed “China Week in Bokone Bophirima Province”.

The delegation that will be led by Vice-Governor Li Ya will be visiting the Province on a mission to forge tight working relations and exchange of business opportunities among the two Provinces.

Key to the China Week in Bokone Bophirima’s three-day programme will be the hosting of a business seminar that will see business people from around the Province interacting with business associations from China on investment opportunities in the sectors of Agriculture, Culture, Tourism, Mining, Infrastructure and Construction.

Geared also towards promoting Bokone Bophirima’s rich culture and heritage to the Chinese, a tour of the Mahikeng cultural sites will be undertaken as part of the programme.

Moreover, it is expected that cultural groups from China will showcase their dance and Kung Fu performances to the delegates and communities at the Mmabatho Convention Centre.

“We are excited to be hosting the Chinese in our Province, and we see this visit as a strategic platform to present our vision to rebrand, reposition and renew our Province.

What pleases us most is that their overall mission is to bolster economic development opportunities in the sectors of Agriculture, Culture and Tourism, which we have prioritised as key pillars for the Province’s economic growth”, says Premier Mahumapelo adding that he is content that Bokone Bophirima’s business fraternity will derive greater benefits from this visit.

The Chinese’s visit to the Province follows the declaration of 2015 as the Year of China in South Africa by both Presidents Zuma of South Africa and Xi of China, this with a view to strengthen economic, social and political relations between the two countries. 2014 was the Year of South Africa in China.

Activities for the China Week in Bokone Bophirima will be attended by amongst others, Chinese Ambassador to South Africa, business people from China and from around Bokone Bophirima, cultural groups from both countries, as well as the leadership of the Provincial Government.

Members of the media are invited to cover the China Week in Bokone Bophirima activities.
