Premier Senzo Mchunu congratulates 2013 matriculants

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Mr Senzo Mchunu congratulates top learners of 2013

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Mr Senzo Mchunu today officially received the province's matric results from Education MEC Peggy Nkonyeni during a celebration with top achieving learned in Durban.

Mchunu thanked all stakeholders whose contributions brought about the province's good results, with a 77.4% pass rate for the class of 2013, including teachers, pupils, teacher unions and parents.

“Matric pass rate is a good indicator and a reflection of what’s happening in classrooms, and an indicator of the kind of support by government,” said Mchunu.

He said all learners have the will to be educated, including those who may appear to be unwilling "like those who become alcohol and drug abusers, those who fall pregnant and impregnate other learners while in uniform."

Mchunu said all learners have great opportunities ahead of them in the form of FET Colleges and universities, but warned that they will continue to need parental support and guidance.
