Premier David Makhura orders investigation into misconduct and maladministration at DSACR

Premier David Makhura orders forensic investigation into affairs of Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation

Gauteng Premier David Makhura has ordered a forensic investigation to probe allegations of misconduct and maladministration in the provincial Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation.

Premier Makhura received communication from various officials employed in the Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation making allegations of maladministration and misconduct in the department.  Similar allegations were also made by trade union NEHAWU (National Education, Health and Allied Worker’s Union) in a memorandum sent to the Premier in August 2015.

Premier Makhura views the allegations made against the department very seriously and has accordingly instructed the MEC for Finance and e-Government, Barbara Creecy, to institute a forensic investigation to probe the allegations.
Acting on the Premier’s instruction, the Gauteng Provincial Treasury has now appointed an independent forensic team to investigate the allegations of misconduct at the Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation.

The forensic team is mandated to investigate allegations of financial mismanagement, breach of regulations and Human Resources procedures as well fraud and corruption.

A preliminary report is expected mid December 2015.

Since the allegations include the role and conduct of the former MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, who is currently the MEC for Social Development, Ms Molebatsi Bopape, the Premier has also referred the matter to the Integrity Commissioner for his consideration.
