Potchefstroom continues road safety domination in Dr Kenneth Kaunda

Potchefstroom Secondary School emerged as winners in a tightly contested Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Road Safety Debate eliminations held in Jouberton outside Klerksdorp on Friday.

Grade 11 learner from the winning team, Zahraa Hoosen was announced the best speaker to lead her team in the Provincial Road Safety Debate Competition to be held in two weeks time at the Rio Conference Centre in Klerksdorp.

Last year’s inaugural Dr Kenneth Kaunda District and subsequent Provincial Participatory Education Technique (PET) Road Safety Competition was won by Mayflower College also from Potchefstroom.

North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa says that his department has thus far observed depth in content and remarkable improvement in presentations in this year’s road safety debate. MEC Yawa attributes this to learners’ adaptation to the World debating style.

“Sparks are definitely going to fly at the provincial level as learners are highly motivated by their peers from the province who won the 2009 National Road Safety Debate Championship last year,” predicts Yawa.

Bojanala Platinum District is to host its eliminations on Wednesday 11 August at Brits Central Secondary School. The last district to hold its eliminations prior the fourth Provincial Road Safety Debate will be Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati on Monday, 16 August 2010 at Vryburg Secondary School.

The provincial competition will be co-hosted by the provincial Department of Public Safety, Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality and City of Tlokwe Local Municipality.
