Police technical team rectifies statistical glitch

Shortly after the release of the annual crime statistics on Tuesday this week, the South African Police Service (SAPS) discovered that there were discrepancies with some of the statistics, particularly with regards to vehicle hijacking, vehicle theft and stock theft. These categories incorrectly reflected the figure zero (0) for a number of stations. But overall the figures for the provinces were and  remain correct.

These iscrepancies were as a result of a systematic error. A technical team comprising of statisticians and IT experts have since worked around the clock up until 5h00 this morning and the problem was rectified. Now the nation at large and anyone with interest in the statistics can rest assured that the figures reflected in all crime categories on our system are correct and a true reflection of what happened and was captured.

The SAPS apologises for any inconvenience this glitch may have caused.
