Operation Fiela continues to yield positive successes
Operation Fiela, a countrywide operation aimed at maintaining safety and stability within our communities, continues to yield positive results in the Free State. The objective of the operation is to rid our country of, inter alia, illegal weapons, drug dens, prostitution rings and other illegal activities.
A total number of 941 people have been arrested during a joint operation that was conducted in the period from the 01 to 17 June 2015. The suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from murder, attempted murder, robbery aggravating, house robbery, business robbery, rape, assault GBH, robbery with a weapon other than a firearm, drug related crimes, driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal possession of firearm, undocumented persons, etc.
The following items were confiscated: 3 x firearms, 42 x ammunitions, 4 x cattle, 7 x vehicles, 2 grams cocaine, 4.2 crystal meth, 14.5 mandrax tablets, 5000 grams of precious metals.
“We will continue to rid our communities of criminal activities to ensure that our province remains the safest in the country”, said the Provincial Commissioner of the Free State, Lieutenant General Thabethe Mpembe.
