Police launches manhunt for murder of police officer in Vosloorus Crossing Mall

The police have launched a manhunt for a gang of armed robbers who shot and killed a 36 year old policeman who was on duty at the Vosloorus Crossing Mall today at 7h30. The official was shot in the upper body; his colleague was not injured but is highly traumatised and has been taken to the local hospital.

A manhunt has been launched for a group of about six suspects who fled the scene with two vehicles, a silver Nissan Tiida and white Audi A4. The Nissan Tiida was found abandoned at Vosloorus Ext 2.

Police are simultaneously still looking at the CCTV footage to identify the killers.

The two officials were busy with their routine sector patrols and were not aware of the robbery in progress. They came across the suspects who had allegedly robbed a shop at the mall and the suspects suddenly fired shots at the officials who then returned fire. During the shooting, some of the suspects came from behind and shot at the police officers, that is when the police officer was fatally wounded; the suspects fled from the scene immediately.

The accused had allegedly robbed a shop and took several goods including laptops and computers.

The Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Lesetja Mothiba, is calling upon the communities to rally around the police in their effort to deal effectively with heartless criminals who are killing the police.

Police are frequently attacked by highly armed gangs; any information that may lead to the recovery of the firearms used in shootouts will be rewarded.

Police management is also calling upon all communities to report any misconduct and/or any criminal activity by our members.

Information may be forwarded to the Provincial duty Brigadier (082 313 8299) and a Provincial duty General (082 444 4354) at all hours.
