Police arrests drug mule at OR Tambo Airport

Another drug mule arrested and makes court appearance

Another alleged drug mule Roxana Quipos Rivas, 44 years, was arrested at the OR Tambo International Airport (ORTIA) international airport yesterday. Rivas was arrested after drugs were found in a false compartment in her luggage. The drugs are estimated to be worth a little over a million rand.

She travelled from Sau Paulo to ORTIA en route Maputo using a Peruvian issued passport. She appeared in court today, Wednesday, 22 July 2015 and her case has been postponed to 18 September 2015 for further investigation. She has been denied bail because she does not have a physical address in the country as she was arrested when she stopped over en route Maputo.

Sinikiwe De Sousa (42), who also travelled from Sau Paulo was arrested at ORTIA on Saturday, 18 July 2015. She appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrates court on Monday after she was arrested on a charge of dealing in drugs.

De Sousa travelled to South Africa using a SA passport with drugs estimated to be worth over R1.2 million allegedly hidden in her books in her luggage. Her case was postponed to 29 July 2015 for a formal bail application.
