Police arrests copper cables thieves

The Hawks have pounced on four Zimbabwean nationals who were found in possession of copper cables worth millions of rand at a plot in Randjiesfontein, Midrand on Monday afternoon.

The suspects were in the process of stripping the cables when the Hawks caught them off guard. The branding on the copper revealed that the metal was stolen from the Johannesburg City Power.

Also found during the raid were suspected fraudulent invoices which were issued on the letter head of the Johannesburg City Power. The quartet allegedly duped their clients into believing that they were sub-contracted by City Power to sell the copper.

The suspects, twin brothers and two accomplices, aged between 26 and 35, will appear before the Midrand Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, facing charges of possession of stolen copper cables.
