Patients on chronic medication are encouraged not to default

Gauteng Department of Health and Social Development urges all patients receiving antiretroviral (ARVs), tuberculosis (TB), diabetic, hypertension and all other chronic medication to go to any operating public health facility for medication while the strike continuous.

The ongoing strike action by public servants has disrupted services at some of the public health facilities. To minimise defaulting and complications, the department has made arrangements for them to collect at any operating public health facility.

Pharmacists in all public health facilities in the province have been informed to dispense medication to chronic patients irrespective of which clinic or hospital they normally receive their medication from.

Patients are advised to take along their clinic cards, containers of their medication or anything that will assist the pharmacist to provide them with correct medication.

The department is committed to providing quality health care. Despite the disruptions, no one in need of urgent medical attention will be refused treatment.
