Pastor sentenced to three years in prison for illegally selling state land

Pastor Mandla Dlamini (76), from Lawley South of Johannesburg was sentenced to three years in prison today by the Johannesburg Magistrate Court for illegally selling state land. Pastor Dlamini is part of the syndicate that illegally sold state land in Lawley, Lenasia Extension 4 and 13 and Ennerdale.

The Gauteng Department of Local Government and Housing’s Anti-Fraud and Corruption Unit opened a criminal case last year with the provincial HAWKS, where pastor Dlamini and four other suspects were arrested.

Local Government and Housing MEC Ntombi Mekgwe has welcomed the sentencing of the pastor. “We are happy that he is going to spend time in prison. When he solicited money from the people he knew exactly what he was doing was wrong. As a pastor he is supposed to lead people in the right direction,” said Mekgwe.

Mekgwe said she will be pleased to see more people who have been duped by these unscrupulous individuals coming forward with information. “We will take any information given to us very seriously and allow the law to take its course. In order for us to present strong cases in courts we need all the information people might have about the scammers. No person should be protected when people have lost money in the process,” said Mekgwe.
